  • A minimum Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) score of 7 is required in speaking, listening, reading, and writing.

Education

  • Candidates must have completed secondary or post-secondary education.
  • If the degree was obtained outside Canada, an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) is required to verify its equivalency to Canadian standards.

Financial Proof

  • Applicants must show sufficient settlement funds to support themselves and their family members after arriving in Canada.
  • This requirement is waived if the applicant has a valid job offer in Canada or is already legally authorized to work in the country.

Admissibility

  • Applicants must be admissible to Canada, meaning they must have a clean criminal record and meet the country’s health requirements.

Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)

 Canada’s Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) is designed for specialized trades workers seeking permanent residence. To qualify, applicants must meet the following key requirements:

Skilled Trades Work Experience

  • A minimum of 2 years of full-time work experience (or a total of 3,120 hours in part-time work) in a skilled trade within the last 5 years.
  • Experience must be in one of the following National Occupational Classification (NOC) groups:
    • Major Groups: 72 (excluding sub-group 726), 73, 82, 83, 92, and 93 (excluding sub-group 932).
    • Minor Group: 6320.
    • Unit Group: 62200.
  • The work must:
    • Match the NOC job description and include most of the main duties listed.
    • Be paid employment (unpaid internships and volunteer work do not qualify).
    • Have been performed in a country where the applicant was legally certified to practice the trade.

Job Offer or Certification of Qualification

Applicants must have:

  • A valid job offer from up to two Canadian employers for a full-time, continuous skilled trade position of at least one year, or
  • A Certificate of Qualification issued by a provincial, territorial, or federal authority in Canada.

Language Proficiency

  • Candidates must prove English or French proficiency through an approved test.
  • Minimum required Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) scores:
    • CLB 5 in speaking and listening.
    • CLB 4 in reading and writing.

Education

  • While not a mandatory requirement, educational credentials can improve an applicant’s Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score in Express Entry.
  • A Foreign Credential Assessment (ECA) is recommended for degrees earned outside Canada.

Financial Proof

  • Applicants must show sufficient settlement funds to support themselves and their family upon arrival in Canada.

Canada’s Canadian Experience Class (CEC) is designed for skilled workers who have gained Canadian work experience and wish to apply for permanent residence.

Canadian Skilled Work Experience

  • Applicants must have at least 1 year (1,560 hours) of full-time paid work experience (or the equivalent in part-time work) in one or more occupations classified under TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3 of the National Occupational Classification (NOC).

Education

  • Education is not a mandatory requirement for CEC.
